Students celebrate GCSE results!

Students and staff at Rochester Grammar School, are celebrating today as they receive their GCSE grades.

Students and staff at Rochester Grammar School, are celebrating today as they receive their GCSE grades. This year, despite the challenges caused by the coronavirus, students have excelled, and the academy is rejoicing in a year of fantastic results for students.

RGS saw particular success in subjects including Biology, Chemistry, Art and Religious Studies, while GCSE PE saw 100% of students achieve a grade 7 or higher.

There are also some standout individual performances. These include:

  • Kayleigh Shaw who achieved the highest grade possible in every subject she took, which amounted to 12 grade 9s and a Cambridge National D2*.
  • Jessica Rooke who achieved the highest grade possible in every subject she took, which amounted to 11 grade 9s, an A grade in AS Film Studies and a Cambridge National D2*
  • Ivy Rushforth who achieved 10 grade 9s
  • Naveen Kaur and Naomi Olalere who both achieved 9 grade 9s

Due to the pandemic, the Government made the decision that this year, young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work they had produced throughout their courses. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards who awarded the final grades.

Mrs Brinklow, Principal at Rochester Grammar School, said:

“I am incredibly proud of our students as they receive their GCSE grades today. They have worked so hard over the last two years and faced all the challenges of the pandemic in their stride. To see them receive the grades they deserve is fantastic. In light of the outstanding outcomes that our Sixth Form students have achieved already this summer, I hope we can continue to support this cohort of Year 11 students in Year 12 and beyond.

We are excited to see what the future holds for them and would like to say a huge thank you to all our students, parents, carers, staff and local community for your support and encouragement.”

Mr Gardner, CEO of Thinking Schools Academy Trust, added:

“I am delighted for our students at Rochester Grammar School. They have worked exceptionally hard, and it is great to see them excited about their future. Well done to all!”
