The students at Rochester Grammar School are celebrating today as they have achieved another fantastic set of IB Diploma Programme results.
Many of our students will progress to study further education at some of the country's leading Universities in September.
The IB programme is designed to prepare students for university. Students are graded out of 7 in three higher subjects and three standard subjects across a range of disciplines, including languages, maths, sciences, humanities and the arts. Students also complete a Theory of Knowledge course, an Extended Essay and 150 hours of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service). CAS covers non-academic activities such as volunteering, learning new skills and community projects.
Mrs Brinklow, Principal at Rochester Grammar School said: “I am so thrilled for this year group of students who have achieved such amazing results against the backdrop of such a turbulent few years. This group of students did not sit their GCSEs due to the pandemic and had to work through partial school closures and further lockdown during their Yr12 year, but they have embraced the IB Diploma and all of the exciting opportunities it brings. It was lovely to see so many happy faces this morning and we wish them all the very best as they take up their places at universities, on apprenticeships and in employment. They have shown themselves to be knowledgeable, open-minded risk-takers. All skills which the IB seeks to develop. I would also like to thank our wonderful staff who have worked tirelessly to support students over the last two years.”
Students are graded out of 45 for their whole IB Diploma. The school offers this exciting curriculum in the Sixth Form to allow the students to develop their full potential and to offer an internationally recognised education.
This year students have achieved an average point score of 35. This is a high score compared with the international average of 32 and the maximum score of 45.
Students excelled in their IB results, with over a quarter of them achieving an average point score of 39 or more, which is the equivalent of more than 4 A* grades at A Level. This includes Dhyana Gopal who achieved an amazing 44 points and is taking up a place to study Medicine at University of East Anglia, including 7,7,6 in her Higher-Level subjects of Biology, English Literature and Chemistry. Michaela Wyatt is also celebrating securing her place to study Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge with a point score of 43, including 7,7,6 in her Higher-Level subjects of Biology, Maths Analysis and Chemistry.
More than half of the 23 subjects available to study at Higher Level achieved 100% grades 5-7 and this statistic was replicated among the Standard Level subjects, demonstrating the IB expertise within the school.
